The M240B is the American designation of the FN MAG (French: Mitrailleuse d'Appui Général, English: general-purpose machine gun), a line of belt-fed, gas-operated light machine guns that are chambered in the 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge.
It is used much more extensively than the M249 SAW due to it's reliability as it's capable of being used by hand or by vehicle, and is well-regarded as a standard weapon of members of NATO due to said reliability and versatility.
